SOS encourages you to send a letter to your local newspaper or your city/county/state representative. A sample letter relating to the quarry project is shown below: Dear _____________________, I am a resident of ____________, and I am deeply concerned about the threatened scenic and environmental destruction of the beautiful Sunol Valley. Mission Valley Rock Company, Alameda County and the San Francisco Water Department are currently trying to initiate a 45-year surface mining project that will replace 200 acres of prime farmland and pristine wildlife habitat with a 200 foot gravel pit. This project is clearly not in the public interest and will cause permanent, irreversible and needless damage. I ask you to to do everything you can to draw attention to this potential disaster which can yet be averted. Thank you. Yours, ___________________
